I used to think that America could survive anything. I’m not so sure anymore. Almost all elected officials concede peacefully when they lose a re-election bid. Now we have a President who can’t face the reality that he LOST and I swear he wants to take the whole country down with him.

We are supposed to be a civilized country. This last twelve months has been anything but civilized. There are plenty of people on BOTH sides who are to blame for this. I don’t condone the violence of the racial protests last year. I don’t condone what is happening in Washington D.C. right now.

The last time such passions were aroused over one election, the country was plunged into four years of war. Remember that one? 1861-1865? Do we really want to go down that road again?

I get that a lot of people support Donald Trump. That’s their right and I do not dispute that. I respect the office of the Presidency but I cannot respect the current holder of that office, especially after the events of today.

A woman in the Capitol building was shot and killed during this riot. Shot and killed. For what? To change the results of an election? To give Donald Trump four more years? I don’t know which side the woman was on. For all I know she was just a Capitol Hill employee trying to do her job who was caught in the melee. It doesn’t matter. No one should have to die in the course of a political process.

President Trump has fanned the fires of what happened today. There is now no doubt in my mind that he is unfit for office. Anyone who cannot accept the results of an election that has been certified by the states and upheld in nearly dozens of court actions.

Mr. President, your time is up. You lost the election. The states have certified the results. The courts have upheld the certification. Congress is about to certify the electoral vote. All has happened in accordance with the law. Your claims of fraud have failed. It is time for you to leave.

Otherwise, I fear we are headed for a second civil war.
